How to Extract Text From an Image With OCR

July 19, 2026 · AXS IMG Team

Text trapped inside a screenshot or photo can't be copied or searched. Optical character recognition (OCR) reads the characters in the image and hands them back as editable text.

How to do it

  1. Open Image to Text and add a photo or screenshot containing text.
  2. OCR recognises the characters.
  3. Copy the extracted text.

Get the best accuracy

OCR is only as good as the image. For near-perfect results:

Blurry, angled photos in poor light will have mistakes, so give the result a quick proofread.

Private by design

Documents and screenshots often contain sensitive information, so it matters that Image to Text runs the recognition in your browser — the image is never uploaded. That's the difference between a tool you can trust with a private page and one you can't.

Try Image to Text
