Text trapped inside a screenshot or photo can't be copied or searched. Optical character recognition (OCR) reads the characters in the image and hands them back as editable text.
How to do it
- Open Image to Text and add a photo or screenshot containing text.
- OCR recognises the characters.
- Copy the extracted text.
Get the best accuracy
OCR is only as good as the image. For near-perfect results:
- Use a clear, high-contrast, in-focus image — screenshots are ideal.
- Make sure the text is roughly straight, not skewed at an angle.
- Crop close to the text and start from the highest-quality version you have.
Blurry, angled photos in poor light will have mistakes, so give the result a quick proofread.
Private by design
Documents and screenshots often contain sensitive information, so it matters that Image to Text runs the recognition in your browser — the image is never uploaded. That's the difference between a tool you can trust with a private page and one you can't.
